Science Week 2010
Our Place In Space
Astronomy is as old as human life itself. From the time our knuckles first brushed the forest floors, we have looked to the night sky and wondered. The earliest dedicated astronomers were priests, who observed the skies in an attempt to predict the future and divine the reasons for earthly events. They were often wrong, and perpetuated the idea that the Earth was the centre of the universe and never moved.
Activities

Thursday, November 11th: David Moore, Chairman of Astronomy Ireland, will give a special lecture: A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe. In this, he will give a whistle-stop tour of all the exciting elements of our Universe, from planets and moons to stars and galaxies, and everything in between!
Saturday, November 13th: As a grand finale for Astronomy Ireland's role in Science Week 2010, we will be holding our annual exhibition, Astro Expo. At this special event, guests will be able to check out a huge variety of telescopes, see some amazing lectures, meet other amateur astronomers, and much more!
We will be inviting schools around the country to take part in a simple light pollution survey, so we can measure the effects of lighting in Ireland on the wonders of the night sky.
