Lunar Eclipse September 2025

At sunset on Sunday Sep.7th (around 8pm from Ireland) the Sun will set at the same time that the Moon will rise in the East almost totally eclipsed!
For us on this island this will give us a very deep (almost total) eclipse of the Moon, but the sky will be bright for the first few minutes as twilight dies away, but the Moon is getting higher as the sky darkens and we should get great views of the Moon leaving the Earth’s shadow!
We have a full article with details in our September magazine and when you join Astronomy Ireland you will be immediately emailed this article, and the paper magazine will arrive in the post a few days later, and every month thereafter.
Sign up here so you don’t miss other great events like this too (this is the SECOND eclipse visible from Ireland, did you see the one in March? If not sign up!):

PHOTOS WANTED!  EVEN CAMERA PHONE?

As millions of you in Ireland watch the eclipse you are sure to want to take a photo to preserve the memory?
Even a camera phone should do a good job.
Please send your best photo (not all of them please as we get swamped with hugely popular events like this)…
…and we will publish it in the next issue of Astronomy Ireland magazine as a souvenir of the last lunar eclipse we will see from Ireland for over 3 years!

Email photo with your name, location and equipment used to:
