Rings are edge-on for last time until 2039!!!

29th November @ 7PM at AI Headquarters Blanchardstown

(location)

This event runs until 9:00pm.

See Moon diagrams below

Saturn is the most spectacular planet to see in a telescope. To the naked eye it looks just like an ordinary ‘star’ but in the very powerful telescopes we will be setting up you will see it as a big globe, 9 times wider than the Earth, with its rings 2.5 times wider than the planet.
The telescopes are thousands of times more powerful than your eyes and will even show several of the biggest moons of Saturn (especially Titan and Rhea, the two biggest) even though they are 1.3 billion km (about 800 million miles) away!
You will never forget this sight for as long as you live so do urge everyone you know to book a ticket for a night to remember.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will the event go ahead if it is raining?
YES! We plan our events in advance, therefore if it is raining the event will still go ahead. In the event of rain/cloud cover we will show you our telescopes and serve refreshments, PLUS Ireland’s best known astronomer David Moore will give a talk and answer all your questions.

Is the event suitable for children?
We welcome children of all ages to our events. Please note that children MUST be supervised AT ALL TIMES to ensure safety around telescopes and tea/coffee areas.

As this is a once-in15-year view please tell all your friends and family to come along as you need the really powerful telescopes we will be setting up to see this clear – a very rare and unique event that we guarantee will not disappoint them!

****SCOUT/SCHOOL GROUPS****
While we encourage scout and school groups to come along please call ahead in order to confirm if there are any prior groups arranged to come along. This makes it easier for our volunteers to enable all groups to view these amazing sights.
