Eclipse Glasses POP-UP Shop & Sun Show

1pm to 3pm Saturday August 8th

at Astronomy Ireland Headquarters

You can come and buy your Eclipse Glasses (€10 per pair) in person this Saturday when we will open our Headquarters (near Blanchardstown – see map below) to also answer all your questions about the Big Eclipse next week AND show you how to photograph it with your Eclipse Glasses and smartphone.

There’ll be a short open-air talk about Eclipses and Eclipse viewing by our magazine editor David Moore who has seen two total solar eclipses and countless partial ones, and who wrote the feature article about viewing this eclipse in our AUGUST magazine.

Note: INCREDIBLY, there will be an almost-Total Eclipse of the Moon this month also!

And the Perseid Meteor Shower peaks on Aug.12th also, just hours after the solar eclipse!

SAFETY is the most important word for next Wednesday’s eclipse. Special EU-certified glasses are needed – sunglasses will not do, even multiple pairs stacked together are not safe. Eclipse Glasses are by far the safest method and we have supplied thousands of them already. 

PHOTOGRAPHY: you can also take photos with your phone and we want to publish your best photo in Astronomy Ireland magazine – which is aimed at beginners – every coffee table should have one so you and visitors can marvel at the pretty pictures taken from Ireland every month and from giant telescopes around the world and in space.

MAGAZINE: do sign up for the magazine which is aimed exactly at people like you. Especially because we will have a special feature of all the Irish photos we receive in the SEPTEMBER issue that you won’t want to miss as it will be a superb souvenir of this event that sees up to 98% of the Sun being covered from Ireland – the most we’ll see until the actual Total Solar Eclipse visible from Cork and Kerry in 2090

TELESCOPES ON THE DAY: specially filtered telescopes will be at the Pop-Up Shop to show the sunspots on the Sun and you can also practice taking photos of the Sun with your phone – there are tips and tricks for doing this and the talk will explain them. We also emailed out these details to all members last Wednesday in our weekly email, another reason to join Astronomy Ireland – you’ll never miss a thing with us to guide you.

GET SOME FOR FRIENDS: let family and friends know you are going to the event in case they want Eclipse Glasses too, bulk orders/purchases are welcome.

They are delivered by Registered Post from An Post but cannot be guaranteed to be delivered the next day so after Sunday you order them at your own risk if they do not arrive in time. So if you’re in the Leinster area make sure you get along to the Shop/Show on Saturday 1pm to 3pm 

TALK AND TV: David’s talk is at 2pm but he will also be on television on the morning of the eclipse around 7:45am on Virgin One’s “IRELAND AM” show if you can’t get along Saturday.
