ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr Larissa Palethorpe Short Bio
Dr Larissa Palethorpe is an astrophysicist at the University of Bristol who studies small exoplanets similar in size to Earth. Her research investigates how these planets form, evolve, and sometimes lose their atmospheres, helping astronomers understand the wide range of worlds that exist beyond our Solar System.
My research has led to the discovery and characterisation of several exoplanets, including the nearest transiting temperate Earth-sized planet discovered to date Gliese 12 b, for which I was a joint first author, and was featured in a NASA press release. I work closely with international collaborations including the HARPS-N and CHEOPS teams, and my research aims to improve our understanding of how small planets form, evolve, and fit into the broader population of planetary systems in our Galaxy.
